Osama Was Unarmed? And Pakistan?

What is going on with these details slowly trickling out about Osama's death. We know that his pictures won't be released, which is probably a good thing. I think it'd get too gruesome if that kind of stuff was leaked to the public and might ignite more anger.

We also heard from Osama's daughter that Osama was unarmed, only his couriers were armed. Was there a need to shoot him in the head?

Finally, the question I want to really ask is what the hell was Pakistan doing? They were right under his nose in a humongous mansion/fortified building right next to a military academy. If that doesn't ignite suspicion... I don't know what does.

  1. It bothers me a tad that bin Laden was unarmed and with a woman but the Navy Seals still felt the need to deliver two gunshots, one to the head and one to the chest. However, if I was in the position of that same Navy Seal and had to make an impulsive decision to decide whether to fire my assault rifle, I would have probably done the same. There is no way I would give him any chance to run away or harm me. Moreover, Pakistan seems to be under going a public relation fiasco where the U.S. claimed on Sunday night that Pakistan assisted them while the following day Pakistan denied all involvement and knowledge, even saying that the mission was unauthorized. Obviously Pakistan is trying to stay out of the cross hairs of the war on terrorism and terrorism in the Middle East. I think the next question is where do we go from here? How long do we continue to spend $125 billion a year fighting terrorism?

  2. Even though Osama was reportedly unarmed, I highly doubt he was cooperative with the Navy SEALS upon their entry to his compound. Do you really think Osama bin Laden would put his hands behind his back and get handcuffed and escorted to prison? Osama bin Laden knew once the troops got to to him that his life as he knew it would be over, so my guess is that he decided to embrace martyrdom, and welcome the shots of the SEALs.

  3. I think its pretty easy to discuss the politics of the raid, but could you imagine actually being there? Those SEALs were in the middle of an intense battle: bullets were flying, people were screaming, helicopters were falling out of the sky. Though some people might think it was 'wrong' to shoot him, I'm sure he was shot for a reason.

  4. I'm usually a big believer in fair trials and such, but even if they weren't in a combat situation I wouldn't have second-guessed the decision to kill him. It's not like he ever claimed he was innocent.
