Since we discussed existentialism briefly in class, this video is appropriate to show. It's a brief, funny mash-up of Star Wars scenes with dubbed French voices posing existential queries and being generally depressing. The words, facial expressions, and gesticulations align and make comical new scenes from the old ones we are familiar with:
My favorite part is the hologram of Leia saying over and over: "Help me Obi Wan Kenobi. I exist, and I find it nauseating."
Some of modern existential thoughts come from a novel called Nausea by Jean-Paul Sartre. The book focuses on objects and their meanings. The character is concerned with the effect that human-defined objects has on his ability to define himself.

Franchement, je ne comprends pas pourquoi ce film est en français. Ces imbéciles d’éditeurs s’imaginent qu’ils peuvent mettre des sous titres en anglais qui ne correspondent pas du tout avec ce que disent les acteurs et que ca sera marrent pour ceux qui ne parlent pas français. En effet, ils ont raison. Mais ca ne m’empêche pas de râler en français n’importe comment parce que je comprends tous ce que disent les acteurs et l’humour est perdu. La prochaine fois, ajoute tes propres paroles en français pour que le dialogue corresponde avec les sous titres. Zut alors!
