A soap in a ring

I just stumbled across this and had to post it on the blog. Take a look at this video and then you will see why some people can never take wrestling too seriously.

So after seeing all of those wrestling matches from the dropbox, you can see how intense the crowd can get. I guess Im just assuming that those people believe what is going on in the ring, but they could also know that they are really just watching a soap opera in a ring. After seeing this video I sort of have to believe that the people in the audience know what they are seeing. No one in their right mind would ever think that hypnosis is a plausible move usable in the ring.
Now, throughout this course I have gotten to take a look at the mind of a wrestling fan and think that they are more interested in the actual story than the realism inside the ring. I guess I can relate this type of situation to anyone who watches actual soap operas. I have seen commercials for those shows and every twist and turn in the plot seems more and more unbelievable yet people still watch. I guess it is because they have some kind of investment in the show and what I mean is that they care about the characters and what happens to them. This kind of attachment is what distracts fans from the ridiculous things they see in shows like soap operas or wrestling.

  1. I really like the comparison between soap operas and wrestling. Having watched soap operas occasionally during the summer when nothing else was on, the style of acting is remarkably similar between them and wrestling. The exaggerated gestures and emotions and the way they carry themselves are similar between soap opera actors and wrestlers in promos.
