Violent Pornography
That phrase is always an attention getter. This song by system of a Down is the purest example of violent rock music exposing mass media communication. "it's a violent pornography, chucking chicks and sodomy, the kind of shot you see on TV". This is the refrain of the song and obviously it's a very blunt and real statement about our society and mass media in general. SOAD repeats this to drill into our heads how easily infiltrated our (seemingly gentile) minds are. The reason we are 'brainwashed' is because of the incredible amounts of violence we are exposed to on a daily level. Television, radio, MTV, and talk shows are all culprits of this story. This idea that we can reach hundreds of thousands of people by simply clicking a button or accessing a website is a scary notion and SOAD wants to make the public realize The ease of burrowing into our lives, homes, iPhones, and televisions. The fact that SOAD can create a song called 'violent pornography' and then sells tons of records just shows the ease, influence, and societal infatuation with violence in media messages.
