I think another reason why this episode caused so many emotions for people (other than being incredibly realistic) was because the lack of music allows the viewer to create their own emotional reaction. I also think it was such an emotional episode because it pulls emotions from all the characters--all of Buffy's friends felt very close to Joyce and she was a mother figure to them. Anyone could relate to this loss--a child losing a parent (Buffy/Dawn), a friend seeing their friend going through the pain of a lost family member (Willow, Xander, Tara, ect.), or an adult loosing their friend and peer (Giles).elizabeth manzohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00438139193416977062noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9204080274406469.post-78168452393304294622011-11-20T21:31:31.451-08:002011-11-20T21:31:31.451-08:00I used up at least half of the tissues remaining i...I used up at least half of the tissues remaining in my tissue box while watching this episode. It was precisely because everything was so "real" and raw that it made such a strong impact. Nearly everything that is typical in a Buffy episode (sassy pre-slaying lines, music, and the supernatural...for the most part) was stripped away and therefore all of the FEELINGS hit with full force, reminding us that it's much easier to connect with a girl who isn't completely immune to real-world problems.Yvonnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01924118603439839232noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9204080274406469.post-85593015097627391592011-11-17T13:41:33.365-08:002011-11-17T13:41:33.365-08:00I feel like Buffy has had a lot of moments through...I feel like Buffy has had a lot of moments throughout the series to show her "girl" side instead of just her "slayer" side. From the very beginning, she has always had moments of struggle between doing her duty and trying to be a "normal" girl, especially in high school when she would have to balance school and social life and slaying all at once. It was definitely less realistic as "The Body" at the time, but she still had moments where you could see her true Buffy self, not just the warrior. I do agree though that "The Body" really hits home in that respect.Rachel Benjaminhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01219143269769909067noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9204080274406469.post-43484449863852366752011-11-15T11:38:16.268-08:002011-11-15T11:38:16.268-08:00Great point. On a show all about the supernatural, "The Body" simply focuses on the humanity of all of the characters.Samhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05286795917822941982noreply@blogger.com
